The Blacksploitation movie genre was controversial, but one component of it that couldn't be disputed was the greatness of some of its music and soundtracks. Artists of the day became the carrier by which many of the movies were known. Superfly may not have been a cinematic masterpiece, but Curtis Mayfield's soundtrack very much was. This album is a sampling of the sound of that period and also some of the music that was influenced by it.
